This is the more IO pins and SMD version of ESP8266 Wifi module, can easily embedded into your project or board, better for a real product, better than WI07C-1 PTH pins version (which is good for testing and prototyping).
Available type of boards:
ESP-03: on-board high-gain compact ceramic antenna (the white part),- ESP-04: None of on-board anntena, smaller one doesn’t have on board antenna, you are free to design for it (Wifi_ANT Pin).
- ESP-06: Different version of WI07-4, shield metal case, slightly bigger, all the pins located on the back of the board, none of on-board antenna. Can pass FCC-EC.
- ESP-07: Same pins with wi07-12, but it has on-board ceramic antenna, and IPEX connector for lead out antenna, so you can add extra antenna to improve the signal strength when it nececssary.
- ESP-09: The smallest size only 10*10mm, 4 layer design, no on-board antenna.
ESP12 now is replaced by new version ESP12E, please get it here.
- (Retired) ESP-12: The latest version with most hardware available resources on the boards
- It is 16 pins, including all 11 GPIOs, ADC, and 4 pins for setup (VCC, GND, CPEN, RST), but still not RTC and else.
- On board PCB antenna and communication status LED.
- Also through holes available for wiring, more easy for prototyping.
- Large 4M flash memory for programming! (new stock now is 4M, old stock may be not, please be aware no ganurtee)
Note:
- Wiring: If the GPIO15 pins are listed on the board, please connect it to ground. This is different with PTH version which has already done this.
- The break away pins headers only used for reference, not included in the package.

It is confusing which module is WI07-3, WI07-4, WI07-6, as the picture does not change accordingly. It would be better to have seperate webpages, since the modules are different.

it would be great if electrodragon also launches some empty dev board with the the layout for soldering these boards on to

It is very hard to identify what picture corresponds to the name of the module. Please correct it, so cutstomers will have no problem with choosing exact model for their needs.

Wi07-12 can be flashed no problem. You have to double check your steps.

picked up the ESP8266 Wi07-12 (full io) and the WI07c.. great little modules.. had no problems flashing them with latest firmware (used this article http://www.xess.com/blog/esp8266-reflash/).. currently replacing my Nordic 2.4 modules with them… IP connectivity is sweet.

Does ESP03 have power/status LEDs?
I’ve apply 3V3 to module with pull-up CHPD and grounded GPIO15 but there is no shining LED.

I can communicate with the module but it seems it doesn’t have any “On board PCB antenna and communication status LED“.

These are excellent (and cheap!) wifi modules. I find the esp-03 to be the best for my purposes: lots of gpio, very small form factor. It’s also pretty easy to fit in a breadboard just by bending some header leads.

Good price, but first be loaded firmware to work the module. You can use AT commands or LUA.

The ESP-07 modules are great for IOT applications. The option for external antenna is nice for boosting the wifi reception if necessary. I use them in conjunction with the Blynk app for controlling things around my house.
